Review of No Kissing Allowed by Melissa West

July 31, 2015

I have to be completely honest here; I did not find the blurb appealing. At all. It gives off a very generic and excessively common vibe, like thousands of other romance books out there. However, due to the fact that, lately I have been proven wrong about my presumptions about books, stories, and what not, I decided not to jump into any conclusions until I read and finish No Kissing Allowed. So, I requested for a last minute copy from the publisher through NetGalley, got approved, and started reading it. I'm going to share my thoughts about it with you in a little bit.

Title: No Kissing Allowed
Author: Melissa West
Release Date: July 28, 2015
Published by: Entangled Embrace
Genre: New Adult, Romance
Source: ARC Given by Publisher through NetGalley

SYNOPSIS:

Armed with her besties, an embarrassing number of shots, and her list of 10 Wild Things To Do Before Adulthood, recent grad Cameron Lawson is partying it up before she starts her dream job at New York's biggest ad agency. Her last task?  Hook up with a random guy. And while it's so not her style, the super-sexy guy sitting next to her is definitely game. No names. No details.

At least, that was the plan.

On her first day of work, Cameron discovers her hook-up is none other than Aidan Truitt her new boss's boss. Talk about failing the no fraternizing with coworkers policy on an epic level. Especially when Aidan makes it clear their one night was only the beginning.

Falling for him could cost her everything, but sometimes the only way to get what you want is by breaking a few rules...

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

Cameron Lawson is a driven and ambitious young woman, who wants to prove her independence. She wants to succeed--in anything--knowing that she did so because of her hardwork. On the outside, she appears tough and confident, but in reality, she has fears that most people wouldn't understand. Love, stability, and a family--these are the things she wants in life. Will she be able to have them though?

Aidan Truitt is the perfect guy. Well, almost. He doesn't do love, relationships, and most definitely don't see himself having a family. His father helped turn his emotions off when it comes to women...except for one. He wants to stick with what he knows and what he should do, but the thing is, he also wants to experience a warm and welcoming home. Will he be able to conquer his fears before it takes away the best thing in his life?

REVIEW:

No Kissing Allowed is such a well-written book, in my opinion. The approach Melissa West took totally worked for me; romantic with lots of humor. She already had me grinning 5 pages in! The story is quite predictable, like what I expected, but it was still very interesting. The passion between the two wasn't explosive, or anything like that, but you can definitely feel their chemistry through their dialogue and actions. Especially when it comes to Aidan; he's the one who started setting up ground rules for them, namely the "no emotions involved" one, and yet he asks Cameron to do things that will eventually lead her into falling for him--which she did! The book's ending left me wanting more. However, there's actually special instructions on the last page for readers who wish to get an extra scene or something. So, I guess I'll be doing that.

SUMMARY:

I really liked No Kissing Allowed. It's a fast-paced, romantic, and humorous book that will have you swooning from the dialogue. It's a light read with not a lot of drama, so I recommend this to all romance genre fans.

RATING:

Review of Risk Me by Lexi Scott

July 31, 2015

I was actually quite undecided about whether or not I should review this book. The blurb made Cohen look a little too good and boring. I have no qualms about the good part, but I don't like the male lead to be dull and too tame. Eventually, my curiosity won out and I read it. Let me share my thoughts about it real quick.

Title: Risk Me (Silver Strands #2)
Author: Lexi Scott
Publication Date: July 28, 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Source: ARC Given by Publisher and Tour Organizer through NetGalley

SYNOPSIS:

For Cohen Rodriguez, getting dumped by his girlfriend was bad enough. Being told he's “not impulsive enough” was just the cheap parting gift. Still, he takes a break from his über responsible ways and dates his way through Silver Strand. Except it's not exactly turning out the way he thought...

On top of that, there's Maren Walshe, whose combination of sexy and down-to-earth is everything Cohen wants in a girl. But while they've recently been talking on the phone and texting every day, they've never actually met. Now Maren wants to meet. In person.

Faced with turning his oh-so-safe fantasy girl into an uncertain reality, Cohen and Maren are both about to dive head first, ready or not.

PURCHASE LINKS:

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

Maren Walshe doesn't think highly of herself. In fact, she believes that all she's worthy of are a-hole guys and a messed up life. She's sad and lonely, but can't really move on with her life because of the "things" tying her down. However, she wants to know how it feels to be cherished and cared for, even if it's just for a while.

Cohen Rodriguez has always been the dependable guy. The stable, safe, and family-oriented man. But, that's something he wants to change. He wants to develop a more carefree and laidback attitude, all the while hoping he finds the right woman for him.

REVIEW:

I did not expect Risk Me to have such sexy and dirty language. I loved it! Cohen is obviously not boring and straight-laced. He has a wild side, and one that a woman would be happy to explore. Thing is, he's exactly the kind of guy I normally go for; seemingly innocent, goody-goody, smart, a gentleman, and responsible. I say "seemingly" because, I know that guys like this tend to hide large beasts within themselves. I talk from experience. *winks* Going back to the story, I absolutely loved the building passion between Maren and Cohen. Their romance started out quite differently than what we usually read; there were no women tripping over their own feet, then looking up only to see the hottest man alive, or two people sharing a one night stand, then finding out they have to work together. It's great how they developed feelings for each other (whether they admit it or not) because of their personalities, and not due to their mutual physical awesomeness. There was the usual troubled past and expected issues they faced, but all in all it still panned-out pretty well. The book was well-written and perfectly paced.

RATING:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Lexi Scott is the combined forces of authors and best friends, Liz Reinhardt and Steph Campbell. Together, they write new adult and contemporary romance featuring strong, smart, feisty women and the swoony worthy, good guys who love them. The grew up on opposite coasts- one on the east, one of them on the west, but somehow, both ended up married and raising their families in the Southern U.S.

They love traveling, good food, wine and hoarding books.

Review of Stolen Moments by Cara Bristol

July 30, 2015

I didn't really expect Stolen Moments to be this short. Honestly, I even thought it would be quite long, considering it's a story about a married couple who are going through a phase. Stories like that usually take a couple hundred pages, in my opinion. *winks* Let's go to my review.

Title: Stolen Moments (Split Creek Hollow #1)
Author: Cara Bristol
Publication Date: July 7, 2015
Published by: Cara Bristol
Source: Copy Given by Author and Tour Organizer

SYNOPSIS:

Is it crazy to be jealous of a fictional character?

While Mary Sue is proud of her construction-worker husband Billy's new-found success as an author of spanking novels, she also finds herself resentful of Beverly Golightly, the fictional heroine who gets everything Mary Sue wants: her man's undivided attention, lots of hot loving, and many delicious spankings.

But is Mary Sue's jealousy any crazier than the plan she hatches to recapture her husband's attention?

PURCHASE LINKS:

EXCERPT:

She whirled around and planted her hands on her hips. "Are you going to sit there or are you going to give me a hand?"

Billy smiled, unfolded himself from his chair and sauntered over to her. "I'm going to give you two hands." He ducked his head to snuggle against her neck and squeezed both ass cheeks.

"Billy!" She protested with a wiggle, but giggled all the same. "We have to get the kitchen cleaned up."

"Okay." He kissed the other side of her neck, inhaling the scent of her shampoo. He wrapped one arm around her waist, cupped the V between her legs with his other hand, and pulled her against him.

"I'm serious," she said, but rubbed against his hard-on, which prodded her lower back. Victory! He grinned, and slid his hand up to cover her breast. He thrummed the nipple.

"What else needs to be done?" From what he could tell, she'd finished everything: stowed the leftovers, put their few plates in the dishwasher, and wiped off the counters.

I don't know things. She rolled her head to the side, baring her neck. Her nape and throat were very sensitive. Paying attention there offered an almost sure fire way to put her in the mood.

Billy followed the slope from ear to shoulder, kissing and nibbling. Mary Sue shuddered.

He smiled against her skin.

"What are you laughing at?"

"Not laughing." He shook his head and drew a circle with the pad of his thumb over a hard bead poking through her tank. He loved the tight, skimpy tops she wore. Around the house, she went braless. Something else her alter ego emulated. Only Beverly had pranced around town like that which had led to a spanking and a lecture on modesty by the heroines boyfriend. Billy brushed his lips over Mary Sues ear. "You want to move this to the bedroom?"

She slipped out of his hold, and with a teasing smile, said, "I think maybe the oven needs cleanin'."

"I've got something for the oven, but it doesn't involve cleaning."

Mary Sue half groaned, half laughed. "That is so bad. I hope you write better than that!"

"Darlin', writing is the last the thing on my mind right now."

REVIEW:

We usually read romance books that lead to marriage, and then happily ever after. But, we don't normally get to see how things are between the couple a few years later. This book gives us that. I loved how Stolen Moments shows us a real marriage; one with problems and misunderstandings. The story is very interesting! I really liked how Mary Sue represented real wives; she's supportive, tries her best to be understanding, and becomes childish when hurt. Billy is also very much like regular husbands; tends to be distracted, doesn't pay much attention to their wives, and tried to get lucky even if they don't deserve it. This has been a fun, short read for me.

RATING:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Cara Bristol continues to evolve, adding new subgenres of erotic romance to her repertoire. She has written spanking romance, contemporary romance, paranormal, and science fiction romance. No matter what the genre, one thing remains constant: her emphasis on character-driven seriously hot erotic stories with sizzling chemistry between the hero and heroine. Cara has lived many places in the United States, but currently lives in Missouri with her husband. She has two grown step-kids. When she's not writing, she enjoys reading and traveling.

Review of Perfectly Broken by Maegan Abel

July 30, 2015

The book cover and blurb intrigued me a lot and drove me to read and review Perfectly Broken. Okay, before I go to my review, I must say, my assumptions about this book were proven wrong. I can't believe the number of times I was thrown in for a loop and ended up saying, "I was not expecting that." Should I give examples? Let me think about it for a bit

Title: Perfectly Broken (Broken #1)

Published by: Forever Red LLC
Genre: Dark, Contemporary Romance, Suspense

Zane Tishler moved in with his brother after his nightmare divorce to find that his brother had taken in a “stray”, a punk chick with a bad attitude. Liliosa Cortez found a place to start over in a city built for hiding. But when her roommate’s brother moved in she pegged him for a pretty boy with enough baggage to fill a semi and major hostility toward women. But now, after two years, Lili and Zane have become best friends and the perfect “wingmen.” They’ve developed a system for tagging and bagging tourists. No strings attached. They are partners in crime who have managed to have the time of their lives in the City of Sin.

Life would be perfect if they could keep it this way, but a new player in the game makes both Lili and Zane face the feelings they had not been prepared to notice. What happens when dangerous shadows from a forgotten past find their way into the neon spotlights? What happens when the fuse is lit on all those emotions they have deeply buried?

When two pasts become one present in the searing Nevada heat…

When two realities collide under the lights of Vegas…

When two lives are threatened due to secrets and lies…

What do you do when you find out your perfect world is Perfectly Broken?

**This is a New Adult Romance with dark themes**

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

Liliosa Cortez, a.k.a. Lili, a.k.a Pixie, a.k.a. Lee, a.k.a. Something-else-I'm-not-aloud-to-say is a strong, independent, and confident woman, who is not afraid to take what she wants. She's very comfortable with her sexuality, and Get In, Get Out, Get a Move On is one of her mottos in life. But underneath the tough exterior, lies a fragile, insecure, and scared girl. One who is trying her damnest to run away from her past, and the people who want her back.

Zane Tishler likes sex. He's even become more "adventurous" when his ex-wife pulled the rug from under his feet and ruined [almost] everything that is good in his life. But he's getting better now and is discovering new things about himself and his heart. Will he be able to love again though? And will he be loved back?

REVIEW:

Okay, the first thing that I loved about the book is Lili. Second thing, the relationship Lili and Zane have. Third, the tight bond that their "family" has. Fourth, the entire story. Fifth, the sex. I can go on and on, but I'd like to delve deeper into the reason why I loved these things. Let's begin!

Lili just made it in my list of favourite heroines. She's just...AWESOME! She's witty, sexy, a wonderful friend, tough, and mysterious. There's no dull moment with her, and one cannot simply predict what she's going to do! Example...and also spoiler alert: she insists that she doesn't dance, but when Zane needed rescuing, she saved him by dragging him onto the dance floor. She dances horribly for a moment until the she-devil started gyrating on Zane. That's when she showed her true dancing abilities. She's freaking wicked! I was totally picturing a Step-Up type of dance-off happening.

Next up, Zane and Lili's "relationship". It would seem as though they are in a contest of "Who has the most sexual partners", but they're also each other's buffer. They flirt, they kiss, they grope each other--almost everything short of actually doing "something". However, their dynamic change and things become sweet, painful, and complicated between them.

The "Family Affair". No matter how small their group is, their bond is unbreakable. They have each other's backs, they never leave anyone behind, and they will do anything for one another. It's a beautiful thing, really.

The story is full of surprises. There weren't a lot of people introduced, making the plot concentrated and not at all confusing, but the author was able to twist things around and she managed to shock the heck out of her readers. I know I didn't expect a couple (or more) of events in the story.

Lastly, the sex. Spoiler alert again!! Here's the deal-y-o, Lili and Zane never had sex in the book. They never did anything remotely close to being that intimate (i.e. oral, intense groping), but they did do the deed with other people, and it was deliciously described. It was simple, yet very intense. I absolutely loved it.

One thing though: Why did Zane's sister have to make an appearance?! I understand that she wants to protect her brother, but she's a little too much. She's causing extra drama that is not at all needed because there are too many things happening already. What else? The cliffhanger...why did it have to end there?? I need more!

SUMMARY:

The book is the perfect mixture of romance, suspense, and drama. It's well-written, engaging, and entertaining. I will probably read it again, and I can't wait to read the next instalment in the series.

Review of To Mate An Assassin by Ceri Grenelle

July 29, 2015

I've always been a sucker for books with strong and cool female leads. I don't know if it has anything to do with feminism, but I just prefer women who can take care of themselves and not have to be rescued all the time. To Mate An Assassin promises that and a whole lot more. I can only take too much before I cave, so no judging!

Title: To Mate an Assassin
Author: Ceri Grenelle
Publication Date: July 28, 2015
Published by: Samhain Publishing
Genres: Paranormal, Romance
Source: Copy Given by Author and Tour Organizer

SYNOPSIS:

Love is her enemy…until his beast sets her free.

Cymbeline Kendall’s life is quiet, solitary—until a letter appears in her P.O. box. Then she becomes an Incendiary, a human chosen at birth to be trained to strike like lightning to take out the most dangerous of the Werekind, then fade back into the shadows.

She is a weapon only to be used by the leader of North American shifters. But when she learns the Alphar was unseated three years ago, she sets out to find who’s been pulling her trigger.

Kerrick Masterson has borne the burden of leadership for only a short time, yet he already feels the Alphar power tempting his soul toward the insanity that destroyed his predecessor. He has no time for the woman who breaks into his compound claiming to be his Incendiary, but his beast insists he make the time—for his mate.

In one searing, soul-consuming breath, everything Cymbeline was taught to believe is ripped away. Yet the mystery of who’s been sending her orders remains…and finding the answer could lead to all-out war.

Warning: Contains an assassin who doesn’t tolerate those who hurt the weak, and a shifter leader determined to unlock his new mate’s repressed emotions—even if that puts his balls at risk. Explicit sex, violence, and references to abuse that could be rough on sensitive readers.

PURCHASE LINKS:

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

Cymbeline Kendall is physically strong but emotionally dead--almost. The only thing she allows herself to feel is anger and impatience. She went through a lot of pain to become who she is now and she's not willing to change because somebody tells her something about "true self".

Kerrick Masterson is a strong and capable Alpha. However, it feels as though he's constantly fighting with himself, even more so when he met his mate. He instantly feels the pull, and he has no intention of fighting it. If only she would stop fighting so damn hard too.

REVIEW:

From the very first page, I already knew that I would end up liking this book a lot. I absolutely loved Cymbeline; she's strong, independent, and has a dark sense of humour. Actually, To Mate an Assassin as a whole, has this sarcastic-like dark humour that really appealed to me. I don't really read lots of werewolf books, so I don't know if the storyline is kind of cliche, but for me, I liked it. There were unexpected twists, fight scenes that made me grit my teeth from utter excitement and steaming hot intimate scenes that were just off the charts. (Spoiler alert! There are lots of biting and blood. Yum.) I should note that I am quite picky when it comes to sexed-up books because I've already read quite a lot of them. The story progresses really well, the pace fast, but not confusing. I got to say, at first I thought the lead characters were going to jump each other's bones quite early, but I was very wrong, and I liked it. They--or rather, Cymbeline--didn't give in to the need too soon. There was build up to the sexual tension, and it was well worth it, in my opinion. I didn't expect it to have that kind of ending though, but hey! There's room for more.

SUMMARY:

To Mate An Assassin is an engaging and exciting book that continues at a perfect pace. I look forward to reading the following instalments in the series.

RATING:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

I've always had an active imagination. An imagination that usually took form in the way of zoning out in the middle of conversations. I eventually decided it was time to share my daydreaming with the world and began to put my musings on paper. It started with Harry Potter fanfiction and grew from there.

I am currently living it up in Northern California after a big move from New York City. And by living it up I mean staying home with my cats, obsessively watching episodes of my favorite TV shows, all of which are extremely geeky, and simultaneously reading the next book on my reading list. I do all this while trying not to pig out on unhealthy snacks. As you can tell, I lead a busy life.

Review of Heart-Shaped Stone by Arby Corry

July 28, 2015

Look at that book cover. Just look at it and nothing else. Now read the title. Good? Now, does it seem like a suspense book filled with lies and deceit to you? No. Well, that is exactly what I thought too! I have a confession to make; lately, I have been swamped with books I need to read and review. Why am I saying this? I guess I just needed to justify why I was taken aback by how things turned out in Heart-Shaped Stone. I didn't bother to read the blurb again before diving into the book, so hurray me! I got smacked over the head and fell in a freaking rabbit hole.

Title: Heart-Shaped Stone
Author: Arby Corry
Publication Date: July 31, 2015
Published by: Createspace
Source: Copy Given by Author and Tour Organizer

SYNOPSIS:

Caila, like most dreamers, just wants to be wanted. Unlike most dreamers, she's wanted by the CIA.

When the last decade of thirty-two year old Caila Domenici’s life disappears, destroyed in a car accident, she is forced to begin again. Defying doctor’s orders to slow-go-it, she sets out to navigate the world on her own. It's not going well. Coddled from birth, everything from a bus schedule to how to boil water confounds her. Worse yet, she's about to accept her meddling mother's offer to pay for food and rent. With just a hunch her talents extend beyond that of daughter of privilege, Caila searches for her past. Before she can find it, it finds her. And the handsome azure-eyed stranger who’s saying he knows her is somehow part of it.

Caila always believed there had to be more, but now, on the verge of discovering the truth, she must decide which is worse – never knowing who she really is, or knowing too much.

EXCERPT:

Reese was being too nice. Something was up - their deep conversation the night before, the bubble bath, the tea, turning down her bed and now breakfast? Caila wasn’t suspicious by nature, and in most cases trusted more than she should, but where Reese was concerned she dropped all pretenses and questioned his every move. He was much too calculating to not see opportunity in everything he did. Caila recognized that in him right away. Her mind was now churning with theories. Why, if he was up to something, would he be so blatant with this sudden kindness? Did he think she would not notice?

Then she imagined the most unexpected thing.

Maybe he wasn’t up to anything at all. Maybe this was another side to the man she detested right from the start. The invader, the man who came to make her life a living hell and push aside her father may not, after all, be the man she believed him to be. But even that theory was short lived. No, she thought, he has a motive.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

Caila Domenici is confused. She doesn't remember most of her life due to an accident, yet she doesn't feel like the life she's living now is truly hers. When people from her past start popping up, she finds it hard to believe what they are telling her. She wants to remember, but at the same time, she's terrified to know the truth. If only there's someone she can truly trust.

REVIEW:

Okay! I will be making this review short and spoiler-free. Why? Because there are books that you just can't give glimpses off because you'll ruin it for others. And I don't want to do that to you guys. First things first, kudos to you Ms. Corry for surprising the heck out of me. I was not expecting the turn of events, and the constant "Whaaaaat??" that comes out of my mouth is a great indication of how much I liked Heart-Shaped Stone. The story was fast-paced, it was so fast in fact that things started to unravel in a couple dozen pages in. (I got the book in PDF format so it might be a bit different than others.) The twists in the plots were ridonculous! Some people might think some things are cliche in the story, but in my own opinion, this is the kind of novel you don't want to make assumptions of because the suspense is part of the book's charm.

All of the characters had multiple layers, and they were all given justice. I loved how the story is a mixture of different elements. We have the action, a little bit of humour, a lot of thrill, then throw in the romance, a dash of sadness, and we have ourselves an awesome book.

SUMMARY:

I will be reading this again because it was that good. Heart-Shaped Stone is beyond engaging; it was well-written and carefully planned. It will make your heart pound, your temper rise, your stomach drop, and your head ache.

RATING:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Arby Corry is an award-winning writer, wife, mother, grandmother. Although writing is her passion, she has spent most of her career in the broadcast industry as a radio announcer. Heard on stations coast to coast, and the occasional audiobook, Arby now spends most of her days writing, enjoying the great outdoors with her husband and spending time with her grandson.

Review of The Daddy's Girl Series by Normandie Alleman

July 27, 2015

Confession time: I don't like audiobooks. I don't have anything against them, but they're just not my cup o' tea. I've only tried listening to one before--The Hunger Games if memory serves--and it was weird. I just thought that maybe it works better in a different genre or whatnot, so I signed up for this tour thinking that this would be a better experience for me. Did I have a change of heart? Before I tell you, just an FYI; I'll be reviewing the series as a whole since I pretty much have the same thing to say about them all. Let's begin!

Title: Daddy Morebucks (Daddy's Girl #1)
Author: Normandie Alleman
Publication Date: December 10, 2013
Genres: Erotic, Romance
Audiobook Length: 5 hours and 48 minutes
Source: Audiobook Given by Author and Tour Organizer

SYNOPSIS:

From the moment she laid eyes upon him, Marley knew in her heart that James was not just another client, and the difference wasn’t even the large sum of money he offered in return for a single night of submission. No, what set him apart was the fact that when she called James “daddy”, it was her own heart which beat faster and her own body which ached with need.

After that night, Marley does her best to put all thought of him behind her, using the huge payday he provided to get on her feet again and start over… until James knocks on her door and walks right back into her life. He makes her a simple offer: if she will live with him and submit to him whenever he wishes, he will provide for her every desire.

Even before she accepts his offer, Marley knows that what she truly wants is not money or clothing or even a fancy new car. What she longs for is a daddy who will give his little girl what she really needs… a daddy who will spank her bare bottom when she is naughty, tie her up and take her any way he pleases, and then cuddle her until she falls asleep in his arms. Can she dare to hope that James will be that daddy?

Publisher’s Note: Daddy Morebucks is an erotic novel that includes spankings, graphic sexual scenes, elements of age play and BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Forced to carry her to safety, he throws her over his shoulder, but not before correcting her behavior with a well-deserved spanking. Something about Charmaine arouses him deeply, and it isn’t just her gorgeous looks. This girl needs to be firmly corrected and thoroughly dominated, and a part of Hunter demands that he be the one to take her in hand.

Though he’s used to charging into burning buildings on a daily basis, Hunter knows taming Charmaine’s wild ways may prove to be his greatest challenge yet. Undeterred, he takes on the role of Charmaine’s daddy dom in hopes of breaking down her defenses and healing her wounds. But can she bring herself to open her heart to him, or will she remain the lonely little rich girl forever?

Publisher’s Note: Poor Little Daddy’s Girl is the third book in the Daddy’s Girl series. It incorporates characters from the first two books in the series, but it is a stand-alone novel. This book includes spankings, sexual scenes, BDSM content, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

REVIEW:

To answer my earlier question; nope. I still don't like audiobooks. Listening to one person talk in multiple tones, with different modulations, and talking dirty is simply awkward, to say the least. I'm so used to "reading" books and picturing things in my head, that "listening" to them made it hard for me to fully concentrate on the story. But I tried my hardest to get past the voice of the narrator and to the actual story, and I ended up liking it.

So basically all three books talk about a sexual relationship that might be considered taboo by some people--a "daddy-daughter" one. It's not my first time to read something that discusses the matter, so I wasn't shocked or anything. All three books have very different character, who have different backgrounds, and different status in life. However, aside from their "preference", all three books also have this in common: the passion developed quickly and with such intensity. It's not just about the sex, but the development of relationships built on trust and love. Of course, the steamy scenes aren't to be passed up either, because they are really hot. Although in my opinion, it gets more interesting as the series goes on. Daddy's Girl was written in a very detailed manner, making the reader's imagination vivid. Again, when I tried my best not to be bothered by the narrator (I have nothing personal against them) I was able to picture everything so clearly and it was truly spectacular. In Daddy's Game, even the football practices and training was detailed, and it really gives the book more depth. The author maintained the sense of realism in the entire series, and I think that's something to be noted.

SUMMARY:

This has been an interesting, engaging, and heat-inducing series, and I really enjoyed it. Though I think I'm going to get myself an ebook copy instead. Not that I'm not grateful for my audiobooks or anything, I just really want a more intimate "session" with these books. One that I can only get from reading it. Separately, I give Daddy Morebucks 3.5 stars, Daddy's Game 4 stars, and 4 stars as well for Poor Little Daddy's Girl.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A former psychologist, Normandie has always been fascinated by human behavior. She loves writing quirky characters that are all too human. “I’m interested in the kind of relationships people have in real life. So I write about my characters’ messy, unpredictable, and inexplicable journeys to love.”

If there were another 5 hours in the day, Normandie would spend more time needle-pointing and playing with photography. Instead, she’s a Pinterest addict and sports junkie who’s crazy for Twitter and the color pink. She lives with a passel of children, her hunky husband, and a pet pig who loves Red Bull.

Review of Deacon by Cheryl Douglas

July 24, 2015

You look at that cover and you tell me that that didn't make you curious. Those eyes, that chest, his abs, and that stubble...mm-mm-mm! Oh, sorry. I lost myself a bit there. Anyway, the synopsis isn't all that appealing to me. Sounds harsh, but it'll get good later, I promise. So anyway, the real reason why I decided to give Deacon a whirl--the book, not the man (but one could wish)--was because a fellow blogger told me that the author, Cheryl Douglas, is really good. This became the perfect opportunity for me to check out her creations, especially since this is the first instalment in her new series. Alright, let's got my review.

Title: Deacon (Starkis Family #1)
Author: Cheryl Douglas
Publication Date: June 15, 2015
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Source: Copy Given by Author and Tour Organizer

SYNOPSIS:

When Deacon Sarkis sets his sights on the gorgeous young model gracing the pages of his glossy catalogue, he knows he has to have her. One problem. She’s not available. But that won’t stop Deacon. He’s a man used to getting what he wants and he wants Mia.

Mia is stunned when she receives an email from the elusive billionaire who owns the lingerie company she models for. He tells her he’s intrigued. He’s not the only one. But she knows she’d be a fool to throw away an eight year relationship for a brief affair with the head honcho. He doesn’t do relationships and she doesn’t do casual sex. It seems they’re at an impasse.

Who will come out on top in this battle of wills? The dominant one or the woman intent on teaching him the meaning of submission?

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

Deacon Sarkis is a man who's used to getting what--and who--he wants. He has never deprived himself of anything, especially when it comes to his sexual needs. However, he's not what he appears to be. There's a real problem in his life that he must find a solution to before it permanently ruins his chance for a happily ever after.

Mia Barnes is a sweet, smart, and beautiful woman with lots to prove in life. Modeling is her ticket to success...and her means to pay her bills and her boyfriend's studies. Despite her physical perfection, she has insecurities that constantly nag her and hinders her from taking risks. But for Deacon, she's willing to jump in head first...that is if he's really going to catch her.

REVIEW:

Let me start off with the things I didn't like about the book, and then we'll build it up from there. Okay, so like I said earlier, the blurb did nothing to interest me because it introduced a book that is similar to about a dozen others I've read before; hotshot business tycoon used to getting what he wants sees our physically perfect heroine and decides that he will have her one way or another. They play cat and mouse for a bit, and then he gets her (shocker), she breaks up with her longtime partner to be with him, they go through bumps along the way, they take some time apart, they get back together, and they spout off sweet stuff in the end. But, it's really not as uneventful as I make it seem because even I didn't expect it to be that different. In books with hot billionaires, more of then than not, they like to sleep around, yeah? Normally because they can, and also because they want to "fill a void" in their hearts or lives. Deacon, however, he has a very different reason as to why he can't commit to a woman permanently. Don't worry, I won't tell you what that reason is, but it's really good. You don't encounter this twist every day.

So what am I leading to? This book is not typical. There are deeper issues in the story's plot that would make you think deeper about certain things.

SUMMARY:

Deacon doesn't set you up for that much, but it packs a lot of strong punches. It's definitely a good read.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

When one door closes, another one opens. I closed the door to my business for the last time in 2011, which left me with a decision. What now? Find another location and move my nutrition business, go to work for someone else, or take a chance on my dream? I chose the latter and I’ve never looked back!
I’ve always loved reading and writing, but it wasn’t until I jumped in with both feet and decided writing would be my career, instead of just a hobby, that my muse woke up from her deep slumber.

It was like someone flipped a switch inside my head and stories just came pouring out. At the end of the day, I would often look at the keyboard and wonder, ‘Who the heck wrote that? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me!’

I don’t write books. I tell stories, or rather, I allow my characters to tell their stories through me. I’m not a plotter, never have been, never will be. Why? Because I have no idea how the story will evolve and it’s not my place to manipulate it. My job is to get to know these characters, figure out what makes them tick, then follow their journey wherever it takes me.

When I’m not writing, I’m daydreaming. Thankfully, I have an understanding husband and son who know I’ll re-join the land of the living just as soon as my muse decides it’s quitting time. I don’t work for myself. I work for her. She’s the boss. And I’m okay with that.
